The purpose of Emergency Management is to Plan and prepare for high impact, low probability events. Further the Clare County Emergency Management Office assesses local capabilities to respond to emergency and disaster situations, and advocate emergency preparedness in both the public and private sectors.

  • Clare County EMD ensures that hazards that threaten Clare County are clearly identified.

  • Improves upon local emergency response related skills of local personnel.

  • Conducts exercises to test training and validate plans.

  • Increase public awareness of hazards and appropriate mitigation actions.

  • Identify and implement vulnerability and risk reduction measures.

  • Conducts regular LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Commission) Meetings.

  • Assists many agencies in both government and private sectors.

Clare County has a system of Emergency Alert Sirens controlled by the counties dispatch system that are located in the following communities:

  1. City of Harrison (Tank Hill Area) West lawn Street.

  2. Redding Township ( Temple ) Located in Cemetery area.

  3. Freeman Township Hall.

  4. Lake George ( Silver lake Beach ).

  5. Surrey Township Transfer Station (Near Lake 13).

  6. Grant Township ( City of Clare North end near Burger King ).

  7. City of Clare / Near the Cemetery.

  8. City of Clare (Brook wood Park).

  9. Hamilton Township Park ( Dodge City ).

  10. Harrison Airport .

  11. Greenwood Township at Township Hall M-61.

  12. Summerfield Township (Leota) at Township Hall.

  13. Summerfield Township W. Haskell Lake Rd. & Jackson Ave.

  14. Lincoln Township Fire Department

  15. Garfield Township Fire Department

SIREN SOUNDS:

Sirens located at some locations are older mechanical and may exhibit different sounds.

Tornado, chemical spill, & any other problem where people need to take shelter inside:

Siren will be a long building tone that stays at its upper limit for an extended time.

Attack Warning:

Siren tone will rise and fall for the duration of the signal

All-Clear Siren:

An air-horn sounding short blasts.

THE SIRENS WILL BE TESTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ISABELLA SYSTEM ON THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH, UNLESS THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF THREATENING WEATHER. IN THAT CASE, THE TEST WILL NOT BE DONE ON THAT DAY.

ANY OTHER TIME THE SIRENS ARE ACTIVATED, TUNE TO YOUR LOCAL NEWS OR NOAA RADIO FOR INFORMATION.
